The Tragic Story of Dr. Ann Tan – What’s Real and What’s Fake

Debunking the lies of Goh Meng Seng

Our response to any tragic news must surely be to give the person concerned the private space to overcome the tragic event, and render support if you are in a position to do so, and certainly not to exploit the tragedy for other agenda.

But this was precisely what a Bun Nyok Fong did to the tragic news of Dr Ann Tan, a gynaecologist. We do not know what happened to Dr Ann other than that a Facebook post published that announced that she would not be available to see patients ‘during this period.

Shortly after, in a despicable act, Bun Ngok Fong posted on Facebook claiming to be Dr Ann Tan’s cousin and attempted to link Dr Ann’s tragedy to the COVID-19 vaccine. Apparently, Bun is an anti-vaxxer based in Hong Kong. Since then, the family of Dr Tan has come out to confirm that he is not related to them. They have also asked Facebook to remove his post. It is said that at a time when the family is dealing with and overcoming a tragic event, they still have to deal with fake news.

Almost everything Bun claimed in his post was fake, yet people like Goh Meng Seng continues to spread lies and fake news by reposting it, while others have been sharing the post via communication channels like WhatsApp.

Shame on them not only for spreading fake news about a global pandemic that has also killed 2.85 million people but also causing more hurt and pain for Dr Ann Tan’s family, friends, and patients.

Not only is Bun’s claims not substantiated by evidence, but they have also been refuted by Mount Elizabeth Hospital and the doctor’s family.

The Pfizer COVID-19 Vaccine is not known to cause strokes or brain haemorrhages.

The has only been one case – a 60-year-old woman in Japan – who died from a brain haemorrhage 3 days after receiving the Pfizer vaccine. However, health officials have not found any link between the vaccine and brain haemorrhages.

Dr Tomohiro Morio, an advisor to the Japanese health ministry said: “The brain haemorrhage that is suspected as a cause is relatively common among people from their 40s to their 60s, and at this time, based on examples overseas, there does not seem to be a link between brain haemorrhages and the coronavirus vaccine.”

Is the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is “problematic”?

Pfizer has shared their clinical trial data, which studied 40,000 people and showed that it was both safe and effective. An anaphylactic reaction to the vaccine is extremely rare at 11.1 cases per million doses. The anaphylactic reaction is also nothing to lose sleep over, as it can be easily treated with an injection of epinephrine.

The media Is NOT hiding or concealing any “risks”.

Never take anything you see on social media as fact especially.  Take Goh Meng Seng for example. If you look at what he has been posting, it would seem that every day, someone in Singapore is dying from the vaccine. Always fact checks and steer clear of people with a questionable reputation. (See our article here)

If you’d like to find out more about the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine, you can easily download the FDA Briefing Document, which is probably as reliable as it gets.

The Pfizer CEO DID NOT decline to take the vaccine.

The CEO was in fact looking at prioritising healthcare workers and long-term care residents.

Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla told CNBC on 14th December 2020 that “he and other executives will not cut the line“, as there were limited doses available and the CDC had recommended prioritising healthcare workers and long-term care residents. He also shared in the CNBC interview that, “As soon as I can, I will. The only sensitivity here, Meg, is that I don’t want to have an example that I’m cutting the line.”

As of 10th March 2021, Albert Bourla has received his second dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.

The Pfizer vaccine is NOT genetic manipulation

A summary of how this works: the mRNA strands in the Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines create the spike protein, triggering the body’s immune response. Our body then learns to create antibodies and our immune response to the spike proteins will also train memory cells so that they can respond to future COVID-19 infection weeks or months after vaccination.

At no point in this process, does the vaccine penetrate our cells, and there is no possibility of the vaccine altering our DNA.

The EU Vaccine Passport will NOT Exclude Russian or Chinese Vaccines

To find out more about the vaccine passport, you can download the EU proposal for a COVID-19 Digital Green Certificate. In summary, the COVID-19 Digital Green Certificate will allow EU countries to recognise Russian and Chinese vaccines that have not been approved by the EU.

Approval can also be sought for COVID-19 vaccines from Russia, China and other countries from the European Medicines Agency (EMA), and be automatically qualified for this “vaccine passport”.

The EU is NOT discriminating against non-Western vaccines

The fake news shared by Goh Meng Seng claimed that the EU is forcing travellers to use Western vaccines. There is no such thing, and this has been one of the many narratives that the anti-vaxxers have been circulating to discourage the public from getting vaccinated.

Our heart goes out to Dr Ann Tan, her family, friends, patients, and all those impacted by her current condition, and we encourage everyone to give them the breathing space they need to get through this and avoid further spreading fake news.
