Singapore could be the alternative venue for next year’s World Economic Forum annual gathering,

Normally held in the ski resort of Davos each January, the 2021 edition was postponed due to the pandemic and is scheduled for May at the Buergenstock.

Now, the alternative meeting place has also come under review, according to a report by Swiss Sunday newspaper «Schweiz am Wochenende».

Apparently, the huge number of infections and the death toll exacted by Covid-19 in Switzerland has alerted not only foreign governments but also led to concern about participants of the WEF 2021.

Switzerland has seen a surge in the number of COVID-19 cases. Daily cases exceed 10,000 with a daily reported death toil of 73.

Hospitals are overwhelmed. The Swiss government mobilised the army to help deal with the surge. 2500 troops were mobilised recently to help the public health sector deal with the growing number of hospitalizations.

Swiss media report that organizers have started evaluating potential alternative venues for the meeting.

Unconfirmed media reports said WEF founder Klaus Schwab had talks with representatives in Singapore.

Bloomberg reported spokesman Yann Zopf as saying that a decision would be made before Christmas.
