Successful start of Singapore International Energy Week marks the resumption of MICE activities in Singapore

MICE Singapore International Energy Week

It was a moment many had been waiting for: the resumption of MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions) activities . Monday morning (26 October) saw the Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW) off to a smooth, successful start.

The MICE sector is an important one for us as it supports more than 34,000 direct and indirect jobs with a value-add of about $3.8 billion. “It is also significant because it allows us to be a node where people from all over the world come to Singapore to interact with and exchange ideas with others,” Trade and Industry Minister Chan Chun Sing said.

Mr Chan said that SIEW could not have gone off to a successful start without the full support of all partners involved – from the event companies that have adapted quickly to provide the services required for a hybrid event to participants who displayed understanding and patience of the new Safe Management Measures required.

Participants of SIEW were encouraged to download the TraceTogether apps. TraceTogether tokens were also provided free at the entrance to the event hall.

Participants had to check in via TraceTogether SafeEntry.

SIEW Check In

After having their temperature taken, they entered the main hall where they were separated into different zones, each with its own set of swabbing stations. Here, participants underwent the COVID-19 Antigen Rapid Test in their respective zones ahead of the event. A swabber explained to them the testing process before carrying out the procedure. All participants tested negative.Swap Testing

After the test, participants then proceeded to register themselves for SIEW.

Within the ballroom, participants were seated at a safe distance from each other in their respective zone and they had to keep their mask on.

SIEW Stage

SIEW 2020 is a week-long event where energy professionals and policymakers meet to discuss and share strategic perspectives on issues in the industry and their impact.

This is the 13th year of its running. This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event is held with virtual and on-site participants. About 10,000 virtual attendees from around the globe are expected to join the 250 guests present at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre.

Mr Chan said, “We will carefully study the lessons learnt from the successful hosting of SIEW and apply them to other upcoming events in order to ensure a safe, seamless and pleasant MICE experience for all our guests.”
