Singapore remains an. attractive destination for many global businesses in the midst of this pandemic but only if we are seen as remaining open and connected to the world, Manpower Minister Dr Tan See Leng said

This is because almost all the multinationals in Singapore today serve markets beyond Singapore.

Singapore is now at a critical inflexion point in our economic development, Dr Tan said.

The Covid-19 pandemic has presented Singapore with many challenges.

At the same time there are opportunities for Singapore to seize.

Crucially, if we play our cards right, we will be able to ensure that we continue to create good opportunities for future generations of Singaporeans, Dr Tan said.

“This is a golden opportunity for us. If we can bring these investments in, we can expect to pull ahead of our competitors and grow the over the next five to 10 years,” Dr Tan said.

“However, if we lose this opportunity, the impact will be felt not only by our workers, but also our who will enter the workforce in the next few years.”

Dr Tan said the government understands Singaporeans’ anxiety amidst the uncertain economic environment and their concerns regarding the competition from foreigners in our country.

He reiterated that if the competition is not here, it will be elsewhere, with the helping companies in other countries beat ours here, and displacing our workers.

“The Government will continue to support Singaporeans in acquiring the they need to stay relevant and competitive in the job market,” Dr Tan said.

Let us work together to continue building the Singapore economy, to enhance Singaporeans’ lives and to ensure a better future for our future generations.
