One COVID case in the community, detected before scheduled cruise trip

Singapore's Southern Islands

Yesterday reported 1 case in the community, a Singaporean who is currently unlinked.

She is asymptomatic and was detected when she was tested for COVID-19 before a scheduled cruise trip.

The next day, when her test came back positive, she was conveyed in an ambulance to the National Centre for Infectious Diseases.

The National Public Health Laboratory has run further tests to verify that she is positive for COVID-19 infection. Meanwhile, her serological test result is pending.

Breach of safe management measures?

The woman stays at Jurong West Street 93 and had been at work at Ruising Chemicals Pte Ltd before her test result was confirmed.

MOH update also reveals that on 14 December, she and her family had gone on a Southern Islands tour with 2 other families, totalling 12 persons in all. Investigations are ongoing to assess if there had been any breach of the relevant safe management measures.

All her identified close contacts, including her family members and co-workers, have been isolated and placed on quarantine and will be tested at the start and end of their quarantine period to detect asymptomatic cases.

MOH said serological tests will be conducted on her household and family contacts to determine if she could have been infected by them.

No ongoing infection among staff in Mandarin Orchard Hotel

In total, MOH has tested 571 staff of Mandarin Orchard Singapore. All the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test results have come back negative for COVID-19 infection. This means there is no ongoing infection among staff of the hotel.

In total, 11 of the staff also tested positive for the serological tests, indicating likely past infections.

Epidemiological investigations of these 11 cases are ongoing. As a precautionary measure, serological tests will be conducted on all their close contacts to determine if these individuals could have been infected by them.
