Charting the road map to Phase Three of reopening; a new ‘normal’ safe nation

Lawrence Wong Phase three safe nation persons

The task force handling Covid-19 is planning the final phase of reopening the economy. The road map towards Phase Three will be made known in a few weeks’ time when we are ready, co-chairman of the task force, Lawrence Wong said.

The road map would include further relaxation and opening up of activities. In terms of border measures, we can expect further opening up for travel with countries that are safe.

Within the community, further relaxation such as the rule of 5 around dining and visitations can be expected.

From 3 October, up to 100 attendees can attend wedding receptions (including the wedding couple, excluding vendors and service providers). Attendees can be split into multiple zones of up to 50 persons each. Alternatively, there can be staggered timings with up to 50 persons in each slot with at least 30 minutess between slots.

The cap for marriage solemnisations will also be increased to 100 persons, split across zones of up to 50 persons each.

With Phase 3, events like weddings and worship services can expect further relaxation of rules to allow multiple zones of 50 – greater than the ’50 times 2′ or a hundred people.

Critical not to take the progressive trajectory for granted

“What’s critical and what’s very important for all of us to understand is that this progressive trajectory towards continued opening is contingent towards all of us doing our part. It’s not to be taken for granted and it’s not an automatic progression. It’s contingent on all of us cooperating,” said Lawrence.

To do this, we have to be part of the TraceTogether programme to allow for effective contact tracing should the need arises. Each and everyone of us must comply with safe management measures.

These and our continued increased in testing capabilities will give us confidence to continue with this trajectory towards steady, controlled and safe reopening, Mr Wong said.
