NTUC FairPrice extends PG & MG Discount Schemes Until Dec 2021

Senior citizens from the Pioneer and Merdeka Generations can continue to enjoy discounts at NTUC FairPrice outlets for another year.

NTUC FairPrice (FairPrice) announced on Monday (Dec 28, 2020) that they will be extending its Pioneer Generation (PG) discount scheme and Merdeka Generation (MG) discount scheme for another 12 months, until 31 December 2021.

FairPrice will also continue to offer a 2 per cent discount on Tuesdays for all shoppers above the age of 60.

This move will cost the chain more than $10 million, in addition to the $43 million in discounts given to PG, MG and Senior members since the schemes were launched.

Since the Pioneer Generation discount scheme was first introduced in 2014, it has been extended six times and Merdeka Generation was later introduced in 2019.

Mr Seah Kian Peng, Group CEO, FairPrice Group, said: “We are encouraged that the initiatives continue to receive strong and positive reception from our elderly customers.”

“Last year, FairPrice’s discount schemes helped PG/MG members and seniors save over $7.7 million; this year the discount schemes saved more than $10 million. With the extension of the discounts, together with our various initiatives at moderating cost, we hope that these efforts will continue to help customers stretch their dollar in the year ahead,” he said.

Beyond providing discounts to our pioneers and seniors, FairPrice hopes to inspire the community in recognising and honouring our PG/MG members for their invaluable contribution to our nation in its pioneering years.

FairPrice offers three initiatives to help various groups of seniors stretch their dollar further through different days of the week. These include:

Day of the week Initiative Benefit
Monday PG Discount Scheme 3% discount
Tuesday Seniors Discount Scheme 2% discount
Wednesday PG & MG Discount Scheme 3% discount

To enjoy the MG or PG discount, shoppers need to present their MG or PG card, provided by the government, at cashier counters at all FairPrice supermarkets, FairPrice Shop stores, FairPrice Finest outlets, and FairPrice Xtra hypermarkets.

Those who opt for self-checkout counters are required to select the MG or PG discount option.

The discount is subject to a $200 cap per transaction per day.
